Ready, Set, Sweet!

Whistles are blowing, marching bands are  marching, and crowds are cheering. Are you ready for some football! You most likely won’t find us watching the game play for play, but grazing the tailgate spread instead, especially if Brownie Bugles Bites are on hand. Think puppy chow meets white trash smothered in gooey goodness. It’s definitely a game changer!

Brownie Bugle Bites

Ingredients

4 cups Brugles

1 (5.3 ounce) package Rolos, unwrapped

1 cup Heath Butter Brickle Bits

2 tablespoons butter

1 dark chocolate brownie mix , plus ingredients on the back of the box

1 cup of dark chocolate chips

Instructions
Put Bugles into a large plastic bag. Set aside.

Melt Rolos in a heat safe bowl over a pot of hot simmering water. When they are almost all the way melted, stir in butter until combined.

Pour the melted chocolate/caramel mixture into the bag of Bugles. Gently move it around with both of your hands.

With only half of the Bugles covered, open the plastic bag, and sprinkle in 1 1/2 cups dry brownie mix and Heath. Continue moving it around in the bag gently.

Make the other half of the brownies mix with 1.5 eggs, 1/3 cup oil, 2.5 tbs of water. Melt 1 cup dark chocolate chips.

Pour the bugle mixture into a bowl and cover with the made brownie mix.  Place on a parchment lined large baking sheet and pour melted chocolate on top and gently stir. Allow to cool.

Our Sweet Friends

We love getting together with our BFFs. And one of the best things is the excuse to make GORP. We’ve shared this wonderful recipe a few times. Essentially it’s a mix of our favorite ingredients, including m&ms, Rolos and chocolate chip Teddy Graham’s. Since our girl time took place on Friday, we decided to carry over our love of GORP and make GORP infused chocolate chip cookies for our Saturday sweet treat. It’s the treat that keeps on giving!

Gorp Cookies

Ingredients

3/4 stick Crisco® Baking Sticks Butter Flavor All-Vegetable Shortening

1 1/4 cups firmly packed light brown sugar

2 tablespoons milk

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 large egg

1 3/4 cups Pillsbury BEST™ All Purpose Flour

1 teaspoon salt

3/4 teaspoon baking soda

Favorite GORP mix

Directions

HEAT oven to 375ºF.
COMBINE shortening, brown sugar, milk and vanilla in large bowl. Beat at medium speed of electric mixer until well blended. Beat in egg. Combine flour, salt and baking soda. Mix into shortening mixture until just blended. Stir in GORP mix.

DROP by rounded measuring tablespoonfuls 3 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheet.

BAKE 8 to 10 minutes for chewy cookies, or 11 to 13 minutes for crisp cookies. Cool 2 minutes on baking sheet on a cooling rack. Remove cookies to rack to cool completely.

Easter Sweets

Hooray! Not only is it Saturday, it’s Easter weekend too. We hope you have lots and lots of fun things planned. We sure do! And fortunately our events revolve around yummy treats! Trina will be bringing a yummy Easter mix of GORP to her in-laws and I will be whipping up a batch of ooey gooey Monkey Bread to take to my in-laws. If you need a last minute idea of what to take to your Easter gathering, why not give one of these a try. They are always crowd pleasers. Happy “Hoppy” Easter!

Sweet & Salty

Every time we get together with our girlfriends we make our favorite take a-long treat, GORP. It’s one of the easiest cheat day treats that we make. We first learned of this treat back in our teaching days when fellow colleagues concocted this amazing mix of sweet and salty goodness. One person called it brain food. Another called it GORP, which stood for Good Ole Raisin Peanuts. We’ve adapted our GORP and our recipe doesn’t really contain raisins or peanuts, unless you count Peanut M&Ms. The beauty of this treat is that you can literally throw in any type of candy or snack that you wish. Just mix what you like in a giant bowl and put the ingredients in a baggie to share with your girlfriends or loved ones. It’s always a hit when we get together with our besties.
